In 2000 our friend Nikki Phelps was diagnosed with a genetic cancer called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasis (MEN1), she had several operations and went on to live a normal healthy life. Following her recovery, Nikki & Bill decided to start a family and in November 2007 Nikki gave birth to gorgeous twin boys, Jack & Harry.
Unfortunately in 2008 Nikki fell ill again and in 2009 she underwent surgery to remove a tumour weighing 11lbs. It is believed that her pregnancy hormones had accelerated its growth. Nikki started chemotherapy to shrink the remaining tumours and was making remarkable progress until October 2009 when she suffered a small stroke.
We now know that Nikki may not recover from this cancer so the focus is to prolong her life so that Jack & Harry have a mummy for as long as possible. Her consultant at the Hammersmith hospital advises that she takes a new drug called Sunitunib at a cost of £100 per day, this drug has shown outstanding results in similar cases.
